What is Ayurveda?

I’ve updated my page on Ayurveda and thought I’d share it with you.  Let me know what you think, have you had any experiences with Ayurveda ?

Ayurveda is regarded by many as the world’s oldest healing science originating in India more than 5000 years ago.  The word, Ayurveda (eye-yer-vay-da), translates simply as the ‘science of life’.  It teaches how to adopt nature’s rhythm for optimal health and believes we too are made up of the elements of nature; earth, water, fire, air and space.  The order in which the elements align in each of us individually determines our needs, our tendencies, and any potential issues of concern physically, mentally or emotionally all based on our dominant energy or our dosha.

When we know our principle dosha we can live in a better state of balance, we can thrive.  The three doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha of which we can be one, a mix of two and in some occasions contain virtues of all three.

Ayurveda does not attempt a ‘quick fix’ to cure symptoms but believes in uncovering the root cause of concern, and treating the whole individual both body and mind to remedy which will prevent the symptoms from presenting at all.

[…] In Ayurveda it is one of the two times per year that a cleanse is most ideal.  Taking this time to reset digestion, clear out the toxins and enter the winter months at our healthiest is such a great gift.  For details on a local Ayurveda and yoga cleanse program, click here.  If you’d like to go it alone that can also be arranged, contact me here.
